Solist: Tim Brackman

Tim Brackman (1993) started playing the violin at the age of five. He obtained his Master’s degree at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Vera Beths.


After that Tim studied with Pavel Vernikov and Svetlana Makarova in the postgraduate course of Accademia Musicale Santa Cecilia in Bergamo, Italy. Since September 2019 he is with his string quartet (Animato Quartet) in residence at the Dutch National String Quartet Academy (NSKA).


Tim won prizes at competitions such as IPMC and Prinses Christina Concours (2009 and 2011). In 2018, he won 3rd prize at the Dutch Violin Competition Oskar Back, as well as NTR-Prize Best Performance of ‘Aeriko’, by Calliope Tsoupaki.


Tim is violinist from the Brackman Trio, a Dutch piano trio founded in 2009. In early 2011, the Brackman Trio released a CD of works by Glinka, Dvorak and Rachmaninoff. In 2012, they released their second album, with piano trios by Beethoven, Bernstein and Smetana. In 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, the Brackman Trio organized a chamber music festival in Amsterdam.


Tim has been the artistic director of the Podium Eibergen foundation since 2018.
In 2020 Tim was Young Artist in Residence of the International Chamber Music Festival Utrecht.


Besides being a member of the Brackman Trio, he is also a member of the Animato Quartet. The Animato Quartet won Award for ‘Artistic Excellence’ in Sala São Paulo Brazil (2014) and received ‘Kersjes Fonds’ String Quartet Stipend (2017). In 2020 the quartet released its debut CD, produced by AVROTROS. In 2021 the Animato Quartet won 3rd prize and the Jury special prize at Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition, Norway.
Besides Tim is frequently asked as a chambermusician to play in various ensembles and at festivals such as the Stift Festival. As a soloist, Tim played with various orchestras, including the Twents Jeugd Symfonie Orkest, with which he went on a concert tour to Egypt in 2008, the Rotterdams Jeugd Symfonie Orkest (2011) and the Oost-Nederlands Symfonieorkest (2013) conducted by Jeppe Moulijn. In 2018, he played the Schumann Concerto with the Residentie Orkest The Hague conducted by Otto Tausk.


Tim has received masterclasses and lessons from, among others, Ilona Sie Dhian Ho, Eszter Haffner, Pavel Vernikov, Stephan Picard, Theo Olof, Ivry Gitlis, Joyce Tan, Peter Brunt, Isabelle van Keulen and Gerhard Schulz.

In 2014/2015, Tim studied for a year in Denmark at the Royal Danish Acadamy of Music Copenhagen with Estzer Haffner.

Tim plays on a J.T. Cuypers violin from 1797. Tim’s bow was made by James Tubbs (England 1895-1900). The purchase of his bow was made possible by the Dutch Foundation ‘Stichting Eigen Muziekinstrument’.
